Boatbuilding Website:

Informative Boatbuilder’s Blogs:

    • Bob’s Malahini Build. Informative blog on the complete build process of the Malahini.
    • Dave’s Glen-L14 Build. By far the most informative blog on boatbuilding that I’ve come across so far. It is very useful for understanding the general building process, tools, recommended readings, how to maximize efficiency, and also gives ideas on how to problem solve situations that an amateur boatbuilder may face.
    • Clipper’s Vera Cruise Build. This is a classy blog from an individual who is currently building a beautiful and specatular boat. You may come up with ideas on how to dress up your boat by looking at this blog.

    • John’s Outrage Build. No instructionals, only images of the entire build process. Very useful to see how a boat will generally form.

Boatbuilding Books:

  •  Boatbuilding With Plywood by Glen L. WittVery good instructional book on all aspects of plywood boatbuilding including tools, prep, workspace, lumber, plywood, fasteners, plans, and the entire build process.

Colorado (Denver) Lumber Suppliers:

  • Austin Hardwoods:
    • The best place to get lumber in Denver. They have such a large selection of domestic and exotic hardwoods, moreso than any other supplier in Denver. White Oak, Douglas Fir, Sitka Spruce, Mahogany (Phillipine, African, Honduran), and many other woods suitable for boatbuilding applications.
  • Paxton Wood:
    • Limited selection of Mahogany boards. They do stock Honduran and African Mahog, but the selection of good boards is poor. Surface of the boards are very good here, but most of the boards that are straight-grained are extremely narrow and unusable for frame members. The wider boards at this location can be warped and most often aren’t straight-grained.

Colorado (Denver) Epoxy/Adhesive/Fiberglass Suppliers:

  • PlastiCare Inc:
    • Your one stop shop for all things glue/adhesive/epoxy/fiberglass/etc. This store has it all in such a compact location and at reasonable prices. There is no other store in the Denver area that is so specialized for all your boating needs.

Virginia (Richmond) Lumber Suppliers:

  • Siewers Lumber and Mill Works:
    • This is the place in Richmond to get most of your lumber needs. They can specialty order boards if you have any specific requests, though their stock is pretty extensive. Mahogany (Hunduran and African) and White Oak for the boat build. Marine plywood at 1/4 and 1/2 for boat building applications.
